Lloyd went to The Exchange Group in Newcastle to get the qualifications he needed in order to find work. He achieved maths and English qualifications before getting his level 1 IT and ECDL qualification.
After Lloyd completed his qualifications, he was offered work experience in the IT department of a school. From this, he got a full time job as an IT technician. Since then he has gone onto a position with a big car manufacturer.
"After working in the school I was keen to get a job working with new technology in an area that really interests me. I joined the car manufacturer's new venture in creating advanced batteries for electric cars at their brand new battery plant. My IT skills do come in handy as a lot of our reports and machines are controlled via computers. I think it's a really good opportunity for myself and others in the project to be a part in a technology that has never been tried in the western world.
"The sense of achievement I felt by actually going out and improving my future with learndirect was immense. I found it so rewarding learning new things, it's made learning a hobby for me. Before I went to learndirect, I wouldn't learn about anything I wasn't interested in. Now I am far more willing to embrace anything that will help me progress in my career.
