About us

What is learndirect?

learndirect is an e-learning organisation and was set up by 'Ufi' (University for Industry). In 1998 the Government gave Ufi the task to provide high quality learning for adults. In Autumn 2011 Ufi Ltd was sold to LDC, part of the Lloyds TSB Banking Group.

In the past ten years learndirect has become a nationally recognised brand for learning with the largest e-learning network of its kind in the world.

Our objectives

  • Reach those with few skills and qualifications who are unlikely to take part in traditional forms of learning.
  • Equip people with the skills they need to get a job helping to strengthen the skills of the workforce and increasing the country's productivity.
  • Deliver all this innovatively through the use of new technologies.

How we achieve

We deliver our unique range of educational training products in two ways:

  • Helping individuals to improve their skills through online courses supported by tutors in learndirect centres or remotely via the web and telephone
  • Helping businesses to improve the skills of their staff through elearning courses.

learndirect for individuals

learndirect operates a network of around 400 online learning centres in England and Wales. These provide flexible learning for adults wanting to improve existing skills or to learn new ones.

We offer hundreds of different courses covering a range of subjects, including management, IT and Skills for Life at all levels.

What are 'Skills for Life'?

Skills for Life are literacy and math skills. Around one in ten adults in the UK who have these skills below a C grade at GCSE (or Level 2).

learndirect works with both individuals and employers to identify and address these skills gaps.

More than three quarters of the training courses are available online allowing people to learn wherever they have access to the internet - at home, at work or at a learndirect centre.

Since its launch in 2000 more than 3 million learners have enrolled on almost 6.56 million learndirect courses.

To enquire about learndirect courses call the helpline on 0800 101 901.  Lines open Monday to Friday 8am to 9pm, Saturday 9am to 6pm and Sunday 10am to 6pm.  A Typetalk service is available for learners who are deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired.

learndirect for Businesses

learndirect appreciates every employer is different, therefore we've developed flexible e-learning in all our business focused courses.

We believe learndirect has something to offer employers of all sizes, whether from the private, voluntary or public sector and that is why we have developed separate approaches to working with small businesses, Sector Skills Councils and large employers.

We believe this is fundamental to raise UK skill levels and to increase business productivity.

How can learndirect benefit my workforce?

  • Courses can be delivered in the workplace thus reducing the number of hours staff spend off-site.
  • Courses can be accessed at any time, so learners are not restricted to waiting for the next course-date.
  • There is no requirement to commit to a regular time to study, which means that e-learning fits around the variable working patterns of staff.
  • The extensive range of courses available means that there is something on offer for everyone - from "bite-sized" course to address specific skills gaps - to longer courses leading to qualifications.

For further information call the helpline on 0800 101 901. Lines open Monday to Friday 8am to 9pm, Saturday 9am to 6pm and Sunday 10am to 6pm.  A Typetalk service is available for learners who are deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired.
