Can technology offer you creative ways to up-skill your workforce?

Do you feel bite-sized learning, downloaded and undertaken on mobile devices, might prove to be a useful way to reinforce more formal teaching?

learndirect and Education Guardian have jointly organised a debate to tackle questions like these, with some of the leading thinkers representing business and skills. Hosted by Polly Toynbee a Guardian journalist and with participants including David Frost – British Chambers of Commerce, Helen Harries-Rees, Senior Director of Training and Development - DHL Express, and David Willetts MP - it promises to be an interesting debate.

The event is due to be held on 20 October. We'll be posting the findings on our site early November 2009, so make sure you come back then to find out what was discussed.

Some other topics up for debate

  • Can a group of learners communicating with their tutor and each other online, provide an effective method of supporting employees through their training?
  • Can the model of doctors practicing medical procedures using virtual simulation, be extended to staff training traditionally delivered in a classroom environment - health and safety for example?
  • Many company filtering systems prevent staff from accessing social networking and video sharing sites. Should our Acceptable Use Policies be reviewed to allow employees to use these sites for training purposes whilst at work?
  • What is meant by the phrase ' technology-enabled learning'? Where would you find information on this subject?
  • What needs to happen to make the skills sector more responsive to employer needs?
