"Training is more important than salary" for some staff

Some staff view training as being more important than wages, it has been suggested.

Certain employees view their training and the development of skills to be as important as, or even more vital than, the amount of money they are paid, according to a sector commentator.

Alex Farrell, managing director of the IT Job Board, explains that it is not just members of staff who take this view.

She adds that bosses and companies are aware that keeping their staff at a highly-skilled level, something which requires continual training, can be more important than increases in salary.

Ms Farrell explains this is the case because IT has become "fundamental" in terms of how businesses are run.

This, she notes, make enterprises increasingly aware and committed to making sure that the staff working for them are carrying out their duties in an environment where they are trained - and in turn - retained.

"With regards to the industry as a whole, as opposed to ten or twenty years ago IT is far more integral to business now and there's not a large organisation out there that doesn't have an IT presence on the board of directors," the managing director continues.

Ms Farrell makes her comments following the publication of research by the IT Job Board earlier this month, which suggested 81 per cent of professionals in the sector would be happy to relocate to a foreign country if a work or job opportunity became available.

The study also found that just under two-thirds (62.5 per cent) of respondents searched for IT jobs on both a national and international scale.
