Staff embrace learning opportunities at work, a report reveals.

Employees are enthusiastic about learning and training at work, according to a recent study.

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development's (CIPD's) Who Learns at Work report shows staff like to have supported learning, and have distinct preferences about how they like to do this.

Some 79 per cent of respondants told the CIPD their employer provides them with enough training opportunities.

In addition, they revealed the majority take advantage of this - 82 per cent had received training in the previous year.

CIPD adviser Martyn Sloman said: "Employees…certainly don’t like solitary or unsupported learning.

"The good news is that they are positive about learning and prepared to learn. We must work with them, not impose what suits us."

Among the 16 to 24 age group, being shown how to do something was rated as the best way of learning.

Mr Sloman is an author, lecturer and conference speaker.
