Managers are seeking new challenges in the current economic environment, according to Lifelong Learning UK.
As the credit crunch begin to bite, people are beginning to feel dissatisfied with their jobs, an expert says.
However, Alan Clarke from Lifelong Learning UK says it's an ideal time for people to take stock of where they want their careers to go.
Mr Clarke also noted educational facilities are in themselves good employers and fertile ground for people with transferable skills who are looking for a new challenge.
The Make a Difference campaign is currently promoting the education sector to those at management level who want to progress their careers.
It has published the results of a poll, which revealed nearly 80 per cent of managers admitted to being indifferent or outright depressed at the thought of continuing in their current career until retirement.
Mr Clark said: "Perhaps with the credit crunch we are now getting a bit more conservative, and that is maybe making some of the people decide that they are not in their dream job and think 'what do we do next'."
People looking to transfer their skills between sectors could help their ambitions by filling in any gaps in their knowledge via an e-learning course, like those at learndirect.
