Awards speeches in Leeds hail manufacturing as Britain's economic strength, according to the Yorkshire Post.
Business people and entrepreneurs gathered at the Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business Awards to celebrate the region's successes and look to the future.
Some 400 people attended the Leeds event, which was presented by Declan Curry from BBC's Working Lunch, according to the newspaper.
Conservative leader David Cameron delivered a keynote speech in which he praised the county's "diverse economy" and suggested manufacturing was the backbone of the country's recovery from the economic downturn.
Sir Ken Morrison, winner of the Yorkshire Post Individual Award for Excellence, told guests businesses were in for a rough ride.
"We have got to keep Britain's place in the world and Yorkshire's place so let's get cracking on that," he said.
"Things will be tough. There will be survivors. There is a lot to play for."
Mr Morrison is the president of the supermarket chain of the same name. He was knighted in 2000.
He began his working life working on a market stall.
