Expanding workforce skills 'always a benefit' for employers.
Retraining employees creates a "ready-to-go" workforce with the capabilities to generate new opportunities and drive business growth, an expert has claimed.
Psychologist and life coach Anjula Mutanda said the current job market also makes it beneficial to ensure the skills of staff cover a portfolio of disciplines.
Her comments come in the wake of research from the Learning and Skills Council, which found eight out of ten people felt happier and more confident after developing a new skill.
Another 85 per cent said they were more prepared to take on new challenges after they had started a training course.
"From an employer's point of view, if they are re-skilling their employees it's always a benefit to them at the end of the day because you've got a workforce that are tooled up and ready to go," Ms Mutanda said.
The LSC is a non-departmental public body responsible for promoting workforce development.
