Ex-Apprentice Claire snubs soccer for start-up

Claire Young

She made the last two in Sir Alan Sugar's search for a protege, but now Claire Young has decided to reject a job offer from corporate pioneer Karren Brady to concentrate on her new business.

The Apprentice finalist Claire Young has turned down a job with Birmingham City FC to concentrate on the challenge of developing her own consultancy business in London, it has been reported.

Young, nicknamed the Rottweiler for her tenacious business style, was due to start work at the Championship club later this month in a sales role, the Birmingham Post states.

She won the post after impressing Birmingham City's managing director Karren Brady (pictured with Birmingham City shareholder David Sullivan) during the infamous interview stage of The Apprentice, prompting Brady to tell Sir Alan Sugar that if he did not hire Young, she would.

However, despite making good on her pledge, former retail buyer and 18-30 holiday rep Young has decided to stick with her fledgling advisory firm in order to pursue both business and media opportunities.

"I talked to Karren and explained I wanted to pursue both the media work and my own consultancy and she kindly agreed to let me stand down," she told the newspaper.

According to her website, Young's business hero is US talk show queen Oprah Winfrey.
