Good training for employees can enhance
morale and motivation, ultimately resulting in improved performance and
sales, a pair of industry experts have said.
Staff trainer Lisa Titcomb and Liz Bennet, retail director of cosmetics firm Lush, said giving the right support and guidance creates a "desire to do well" that can boost a company's bottom line.
Furthermore, having "invigorated" and motivated staff helps firms to hang on to their best performers, as individuals who feel their talent is being appreciated and invested in are more likely to stay.
Conversely, bad training can damage an entire organisation by demoralising and demotivating the workforce.
"We view bad training as just being taught parrot fashion, with no interaction and no room for individuality," Ms Titcomb and Ms Bennet said.
According to the National Employer Skills survey 2007, 48 per cent of firms had a training plan in place, while 52 per cent of professionals said they had received off-the-job development.
However, 37 per cent of employees in England had received no training during the past 12 months.
