Poultry trainees from Cobb Europe excel in NVQs

Workers from Cobb Europe have excelled in the latest round of NVQs, with students achieving a pass rate significantly higher than the national average.

According to EDP24, a group of 25 members of staff trained to achieve the qualifications, with 86 per cent passing their examinations.

They signed up to study at Easton College and when the results came in, the Cobb Europe trainees had achieved the highest success rate.

The number who passed the examinations was 21 percentage points higher than the national average.

A total of eight adult learners managed to gain level three NVQs in poultry production, while 17 passed their level two examinations.

Those who took the exams varied in age, with some as young as 20 and old as 62 getting an NVQ.

Students who gained a qualification were awarded their certificates by John Vincent, the production director of the company.

Andrew Farley, the lecturer in poultry production at Easton College, said the strong performance of the workers was down to good teamwork.

He added that the assessment methods used by Cobb Europe, which looked at the actual needs of the individual, also contributed to the high pass rate workers at the company achieved.

One Cobb Europe employee, Tom Neal was recently shortlisted for the 2009 Pfizer Poultry Trainee of the Year Award, reports World Poultry.

After working in a grocery shop for a number of years, he gained a job with the company and earlier this year achieved his level three NVQ in poultry production.
