A Domino's Pizza manager from Manchester has won the company’s International Manager of the Year award.
Steve Cubitt beat off competition from 9,000 managers in 60 countries to be named the pizza chain's top manager. He said, "I was very shocked to win but very honoured. Domino’s places great emphasis on staff training and management skills so this is a great accolade."
Cubitt won the title after management from the US visited his branch to watch him work. They were obviously pleased with what they saw and gave him the award.
The top manager runs the flagship Manchester city centre store, which is to become the first branch in the UK to open 24-hours a day.
Cubitt added, "I really cannot describe how pleased and how proud I am and what a credit this is to everyone at the outlet."
He explained to the Manchester Evening News how he started working at the pizza chain 15 years ago after trying his hand in the insurance business and discovering that he hated his desk job. He then joined Domino's and, after working hard and impressing his area manager, he was sent on a staff training course where he learned the skills needed to be an effective manager.
Cubitt’s story is testament to the benefits of providing appropriate training for employees that show promise. Management and business training courses can help nurture staff who are interested in furthering their careers and fulfilling their potential.
