Punch Taverns is ambitious about staff training

Pub giant Punch Taverns is taking measures to encourage its staff to develop their skills by providing training for employees, including apprenticeships.

The staff training opportunities include courses in leadership skills, customer service and business administration. Five Punch Tavern workers have already completed apprenticeships in team leadership and 20 more signed up for the programme in July.

Human Resources Director for the firm, Karen Caddick, stated, "This is a fantastic achievement and part of our ongoing commitment to develop our people.

"The apprenticeship schemes are closely aligned with our own internal learning and development offer and build on the on-the-job learning of our teams," she added.

Caddick explained that the firm puts huge emphasis on providing opportunities to learn at work, and managers are encouraged to support their team members who want to gain qualifications and further their careers.

She announced that the firm now hopes to start aligning their courses with higher qualifications such as diplomas and degrees."We have extremely high aspirations for the schemes. It's a chance to build a strong internal career path as well as attracting talent to our business," she added.

Businesses that encourage staff training obviously benefit from better-qualified employees as a result, while helping to improve morale and loyalty among their workforce.
