The results of a recent survey have suggested that there is a severe lack
of IT skills among business owners in the UK.
The survey by Fasthost found that 43 per cent of businesses said they
needed to get web professionals in from outside to manage their websites.
This costs business owners huge amounts of money – money they could
potentially save if they took a course to enhance their basic computer and
web skills.
Some 56 per cent of those questioned said they are not able to make changes
to their websites without bringing in expert help from elsewhere. In six
out of ten cases, the person running a business did not even have access to
the passwords or contact details for their web host.
Steve Holford of Fasthost said, "Should arrangements suddenly change,
business owners should be equipped to make changes to their online identity
and maintain contact with their online audience."
"It is vital that all businesses take simple measures to retain some basic
control of their website and protect their investments," Holford
added.
