A Burney heating installation company has been lauded for its support of staff training initiatives.

Gavin Ward Ltd, which carries out heating installation in north-west England with the government's Warm Front scheme, won the small/medium-sized company award at the North West learndirect Achievement Awards ceremony.

The award, which is sponsored by the North West Development Agency, commends the achievements of small/medium-sized companies that support their staff with learndirect training.

The recognition stems from a time when managing director, Paul Dove, encouraged six of his customer care staff to enrol on an NVQ in Customer Service at Learndirect's Burnley Telematics centre in July 2009.

The staff are now improving their knowledge in customer service skills and learning new ways of working, while making use of the flexibility the learndirect training involves.

Mr Dove said, "We've worked closely with learndirect, looking at the training needs of the business as a whole, as well as developing learning plans for individual employees too."

He added, "Being formally recognised is extremely pleasing!"

The company will represent the North West region in national finals this summer, with all national winners invited to a reception in London later in the year. The awards are now in their fourth year of awarding the achievements of all people using and supporting learndirect businesses training.
