Chef and hotel up for apprenticeship award

A chef from Ellesmere Port has been named among the best apprentices in the UK by the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS).

Todd Lowndes's success and dedication demonstrates the benefits of taking on apprentices and investing in staff training. The 16-year-old has recently secured employment on a full-time apprenticeship with Chester's Grosvenor Pulford Hotel and Spa. The hotel and Lowndes have been put forward as finalists for the National Apprenticeship Awards, which would be a boon for both the apprentice and for the hotel.

Lowndes is committed to his work at the hotel and is excited about what he will be able to learn at work. He told caterersearch.com, “I love cooking and feel really lucky that I have got a head start forging a career in an area I am passionate about through my Apprenticeship. I know for sure that I want to be a chef and really value the experience in the kitchens I've gained so far."

John Hayes, who is the Minister for Further Education and Lifelong Learning, stated, “Apprenticeships play a huge role in providing the skills we need to build an advanced economy. They help get young people into work, boost productivity and improve competitiveness.”

The awards will take place in London on 15 July.
