Employees working at an award-winning housing firm have received their NVQ Level 2 qualifications in Maintenance Operations.

Severnside Housing, which was named the 2010 Shropshire Business Awards Best Employer, has invested heavily in providing training for employees and now the investment is paying off.

Thirteen staff received their qualifications last week. The awards involved completing and demonstrating basic skills including aptitude tests, efficient work practices and health and safety.

Severnside major works manager, Amy Howell, said, “At Severnside, we are committed to supporting and investing in our staff and encourage personal development through training and qualifications."

The employees explained that although many of them were well versed in the skills they demonstrated, they considered it important to have these skills “assessed and validated”. The fact that they now have the qualifications on paper will improve their employability in the future.

Howell went on to add, “All of our tradespeople are highly skilled and experienced and these qualifications ensure consistency across the teams.”

Companies that invest in staff training are often rewarded with more committed, fulfilled workers who feel valued in their roles and can perform to the very best of their abilities.
