Business management experts have been discussing the success of England
manager Fabio Capello's leadership and management skills.
Ruth Spellman, the chief executive of the Chartered Management Institute,
says that the England team’s success in their game against Slovenia is
testament to his skills as a manager.
She added that a recent survey of workers found that Fabio Capello came
second only to Sir Alex Ferguson as the football manager employees would
most like to be managed by. Spellman explains why: "Capello may have earned
himself a reputation as a disciplinarian - aloof and detached from his
players - but in truth, it’s evident to us that his primary management
strength is his ability to provide direction and communicate his vision to
the team – he’s a born leader and it shows."
Spellman says that managers and employers in the business world can take
tips from Capello’s leadership style when managing staff and considering
training for employees. She says that he is effective at using his
strengths to bring the best out in his team. Any manager can use these
skills to identify what they are good at and work on developing weaker
areas through online training and developing better business skills and
qualifications.
Spellman says that the four cornerstones of good management are getting
results, strong leadership, working with people and last but not least,
managing yourself – which is what Capello does so well.
