The managing director of a top property repair and maintenance firm, Rok, said that industry should be welcoming the news that apprenticeships are proving more popular than ever among young job seekers.
Andy Mallice, the Managing Director of Rok, Scotland, said that industry leaders should be celebrating the fact that “the immense value of apprenticeships is being recognised.” He welcomed the news that BT and National Rail are receiving 100 applications per apprenticeship position, regardless of the reasons behind the surge in interest.
Writing for building.co.uk, he stated, “An apprenticeship gives a person the right start to their working life and can open up a career path to every level of a business.”
Mallice added that Rok continues to take on apprentices as a means of investing in its skills base for the future. He said that apprenticeships are important in order to prevent a skills gap emerging in industries such as construction, manufacturing and IT.
He went on to warn that investment in the creation of jobs for eager and talented young apprentices is important to make sure that industries have the right numbers of skilled people to utilise when the upswing in the economy finally arrives. He stated, “We must not allow an investment drought to starve good firms.”
