European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)

European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)

The European Computer Driving Licence (or ECDL) is an internationally recognised qualification for computer users everywhere.

Through it you will gain the confidence, basic skills and knowledge to use computers and a wide range of common IT software packages. What's more you don't need any prior IT knowledge or experience to do it.

The following courses provide you with the knowledge you will need to match the ECDL modules:

Introducing Computers - Level 2 = ECDL Module 1 Basic Concepts of Information Technology and ECDL Module 2 Using the Computer & Managing Files

Word Processing - Level 2 =  ECDL Module 3 Word Processing

Spreadsheets - Level 2 = ECDL Module 4 Spreadsheets

Databases - Level 2 = ECDL Module 5 Databases

Presentations - Level 2 = ECDL Module 6 Presentations

Electronic Communication - Level 2 = ECDL Module 7 Information & Communication

The Complete ECDL = Covers all 7 ECDL modules, Prepare for the ECDL and ECDL Module Tests in one course

You will need to register for the ECDL qualification separately with the British Computer Society (BCS), as it is they who administer the assessment and award the certificate. Your learndirect centre will either arrange this for you, directly or through a partner assessment centre. Registering for ECDL will cost around £25 as you will need to purchase an ECDL logbook and, depending on the assessment centre, you may need to pay for the tests.

Contact your local learndirect centre to find out where your nearest ECDL assessment centre is.

If you wish to study towards this qualification, you should discuss it with your local learndirect centre before you start learning. You can then agree how and where assessment for your qualification will take place.

Please note that not all learndirect centres offer qualifications. Check with your local learndirect centre to see if the ECDL is available.
