Help your staff develop into highly skilled, highly effective business people. Our Business and Administration NVQ can save your business money, improve performance and increase productivity.
Business and administration skills are in many roles, yet it can be difficult to find people with the skills your business needs.
The Business and Administration NVQ lets you develop these essential skills amongst your existing workforce. The qualification has two elements:
- Online courses – that provide underpinning knowledge
- Work-based competence assessment – that leads to the Level 2 NVQ qualification
For further information take a look at our new interactive guide and watch an NVQ assessor explain the benefits NVQs offer your organisation.

You’re employees can use the NVQ work profile tool to identify
- which level NVQ is right for them
- which units provide the best match to their job
It will take them through a series of questions based on their role, and will use the answers they give to recommend the most relevant units for them, so you can be confident they are focussing on areas that will have maximum impact on your business.

Who is the Business and Administration NVQ for?
This NVQ is for people working in administration-based roles at junior secretary or administration assistant level, who want to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding.
What will my staff learn?
Your employees will study a number of units, including:
- Working within a business environment
- Working effectively with other people
- Managing a diary system
- Maintaining customer relations
- Storing, retrieving and archiving information
- Research and report writing
- Organising and supporting meetings
- Business software, including Word, spreadsheets, databases and Powerpoint.
How is the NVQ structured?
To help your staff develop a tailored programme to meet their specific needs, the Business and Administration NVQ includes a work profile tool. By analysing their current role, it identifies the most relevant units.
This means you can have several staff each taking a different route to achieve a Business and Administration NVQ, each with learning outcomes that relate to their own particular role.
To achieve the Level 2 Business and Administration NVQ, five units must be completed. Two of these are mandatory:
- Carry out your responsibilities
- Work within your business environment
Three optional units are selected, which include the following areas:
- Managing a diary system
- Working effectively with other people
- Storing, retrieving and archiving information
- Business software, including Word, Excel,
- Access and PowerPoint
How is the Business and Administration NVQ delivered?
We deliver this ITQ through one of our local learndirect Business centres.
Each employee has an initial assessment to identify any gaps in their knowledge, and which units are appropriate for them. Work-based learning and previous experience can be taken into account.
The qualification is awarded when evidence of competence in the workplace has been successfully collected and assessed.
Government funding is often available to support the cost of NVQs delivered in this way. If your organisation already has qualified assessors, you can purchase just the underpinning knowledge for this NVQ, which is hosted on our e-learning system.
