Team Leading

NVQ Team Leading

Give your staff the knowledge and understanding they need to lead a team. Our Team Leading NVQ develops the skills required to motivate a team, achieve targets and identify and act on new opportunities.

This qualification is designed to help your employees develop the skills and attitudes they need to perform effectively as team leaders. There are two elements:

  • Online courses – that provide underpinning knowledge
  • Work-based competence assessment – that leads to the Level 2 NVQ qualification

For further information take a look at our new interactive guide and watch an NVQ assessor explain the benefits NVQs offer your organisation.

You’re employees can use the NVQ work profile tool to identify

  • which level NVQ is right for them

Who is the Team Leading NVQ for?

This NVQ is ideal for those who aim to enter management and need to demonstrate leadership qualities, particularly within a team context. It gives practising and aspiring team leaders a solid foundation from which to develop their leadership skills.

What will my staff learn?

Learners are able to choose units that focus on the areas of team leading that are most relevant to their role. Units include:

  • Developing yourself as a team leader
  • Leading, briefing and motivating your work team
  • Planning and monitoring work
  • Induction and coaching in the workplace
  • Fulfilling customer requirements
  • Providing quality to customers
  • Using information to solve problems
  • Dealing with change in the workplace
  • Maintaining a healthy and safe work environment
  • Diversity in the workplace

How is the NVQ structured?

To help your staff develop a tailored programme to meet their specific needs, the Team Leading NVQ includes a work profile tool. By analysing their current role, it identifies the most relevant units.

This means you can have several staff each taking a different route to achieve a Team Leading NVQ, each with learning outcomes that relate to their own particular role.

Six units must be completed to achieve the Level 2 Team Leading NVQ. There are four mandatory units:

  • Manage your own resources
  • Provide leadership for your team
  • Develop productive working relationships
  • with colleagues
  • Ensure your own actions reduce risks to
  • health and safety

A wide range of options are available for the other two units, meaning individuals can focus on the areas of team leading that are most relevant to their role, industry or company. The optional units include:

  • Developing yourself as a team leader
  • Leading, briefing and motivating your work team
  • Induction and coaching in the workplace

How is the Team Leading NVQ delivered?

We deliver this ITQ through one of our local learndirect Business centres.

Each employee has an initial assessment to identify any gaps in their knowledge, and which units are appropriate for them. Work-based learning and previous experience can be taken into account.

The qualification is awarded when evidence of competence in the workplace has been successfully collected and assessed.

Government funding is often available to support the cost of NVQs delivered in this way.  If your organisation already has qualified assessors, you can purchase just the underpinning knowledge for this NVQ, which is hosted on our e-learning system.

Is there funding available for this NVQ?
