As part of our achievement, we want to encourage millions more people to improve their skills online. There are 9 million adults in the UK who have never used a computer or been online and they're missing out on so many benefits. So, we're partnering with Race Online 2012 and the Go On campaign to help other 'nonliners' transform their lives, like you have with learndirect, by learning how to use computers and the internet.
Go ON Give an Hour is a campaign by Race Online 2012. It aims to encourage the 30 million people who use the internet every day to spend an hour transforming someone's life by helping them get online.
So far more than 10,000 hours have been pledged and there are still plenty of opportunities to get involved. With Christmas coming up, why not spend some of your spare time showing family and friends how to use the internet.
For more information and to pledge your hour, visit www.go-on.co.uk If you've got plans for Go ON Give an Hour, we'd love to hear from you. Email us at case-study@learndirect.co.uk.
Even though our competition is closed, you can still sign up to be a Digital Champion and help others get the most out of life online. It's easy to be one. First, sign up to join the Digital Champions network to help Race Online 2012. Then you can get stuck in to the four areas: inspire, show, set up and donate.
|
You can inspire someone by capturing their imagination. Find them something interesting, relevant, useful or informative on the web:
Don't forget to visit Go On for loads more ways to inspire people to get online.
|
Once you've got their attention, you can show them where to learn more or teach them yourself:
If you're showing and teaching them personally, you can also use the teaching resources at Go On and the Digital Champions welcome pack too. If you're feeling a bit rusty about your own IT skills, you can brush up on your skills with us first. That way, you can be confident with sharing your knowledge.
|
If the person you're supporting is excited about using IT, you can help get them set up online by finding out where to get a computer and how to get connected.
|
If you've got spare or old IT equipment lying around at home or at work, thinking about donating it to friends or family, or recycling it to be refurbished for people that might not otherwise be able to afford a new computer. You can find out more at Go On, and there's a huge range of teaching materials to help you share IT. |
Thanks for your help,
The learndirect team
