Amy Parry, 25, is a single parent from Portsmouth. She
came to learndirect to give herself and her daughter a
better chance in life. Now, with Amy's new qualifications in English,
maths and an NVQ, she’s found a permanent job as an administrator.
Learning with learndirect is not like school
"I wasn't particularly interested in school," says Amy. "Having Sophie changed my attitude as I had a purpose in life. I was keen to start the learndirect courses [and] began with English and maths.
"I enjoyed learning with learndirect much more than being in a classroom."
Doing an NVQ in Business Administration
After achieving her English and maths qualifications, Amy started her NVQ in Business Administration.
"This involved me going to a work experience placement twice a week. This was valuable experience for me as it was effectively on-the-job-training, at the same time as gaining a recognised qualification."
Getting a job
"I later went for an interview for an administration role, not too far from where I lived. I was offered the job and have been there ever since," says Amy.
"My job is at a boating company and I am really enjoying it. My new skills have given me so much more confidence and thanks to learndirect, I now have a permanent job that will provide a better life for me and my daughter."
