Ian Chambers – gets a job after improving his IT skills with learndirect

When 58 year old Ian Chambers left his job at a mail order company to find work closer to home, he knew he needed to update his computer skills.

Now with new IT qualifications skills from learndirect, Ian says "I have a job where I get to use all the new things I have learned on a daily basis and I feel great."

New IT skills

Although Ian had used a computer in his old role, he needed experience using new computer packages, to help him find work near to where he lived.

Ian enrolled on a computer course, and even though he hadn't studied for over 30 years, he enjoyed the friendly environment at learndirect.

"Studying with learndirect has been brilliant," says Ian.

He's since completed a more advanced IT course, developing his skills using spreadsheets, presentations and the internet.

More confidence

As Ian's knowledge increased and his confidence grew he was able to help other IT learners at the centre.

He thinks that being able to practice the skills he was learning, by explaining things to others, has helped him with his own courses.

Finding a new job

Ian has now found a new job as an administrator in a nursing home.

"I am 58 and have managed to improve my life by learning new things and getting a job.  I am proof that you are never too old to learn!" says Ian.
