Shazia Afzal, 33 from Luton, is a mother of three young children. She left school without any GCSEs. When she started a family, Shazia decided to go back to learning with learndirect and now has nationally recognised qualifications in English and IT.
Improving English and IT skills
"When my two eldest children started coming home from school with English homework, I realised that I wasn't able to help them. This motivated me to improve my English skills”, says Shazia.
Flexible learning
"I decided to sign up to English and IT courses with learndirect because they offered very flexible learning which suited my family commitments”, says Shazia.
“I was able to complete the majority of my learning online from home and if I had any problems, I could get in touch with a tutor by phone or e-mail.
“It was this tutor support that helped me to keep going. It had been such a long time since I'd been at school and I wasn’t sure how I would cope with the courses,” she says.
Getting qualified
“I would definitely recommend learndirect courses to others because I'm a prime example of someone who had very low self belief but managed to achieve their goals,” says Shazia.
