People with the most sought after skills and qualifications will always be able to find new roles, it has been suggested.
Steven Kirkpatrick, managing director of human resource solutions firm Adecco, explains that no matter how competitive the market is, those who possess the skills most desired by employers will be able to find new positions.
He suggests that in the current economic climate, if individuals are having trouble securing the permanent position that they want, temporary work can be the "ideal solution".
"It allows you to gain experience in a range of sectors and environments while you build up the necessary background to help you move to where you want to be in the longer term," Mr Kirkpatrick explains.
He recommends people consider their individual skill set while they search for their dream job, noting it may be worth looking at gaining some additional qualifications that can be added to a CV in order to boost chances when it comes to finding employment.
The expert explains that this shows potential employers that people are looking at the "bigger picture" and want to augment their existing qualities in order to become more desirable candidates.
Mr Kirkpatrick's comments follow the publication of figures from the Office for National Statistics last month, which showed that there has been a fall in the number of people in employment and the employment rate.
The unemployment rate was 5.8 per cent, up a total of 0.4 percentage points from the previous quarter, with the number of people out of work rising by 140,000 over the three-month period.
