Getting a Job

If you want to develop and practice your job seeking skills - and look at getting a job at the same time - then this is for you.

It's an entertaining and easy-to-use online course where you'll learn valuable skills such as how to ask about jobs, how to complete a CV, an application form and a covering letter, how to phone and confirm information and how to prepare for interviews.

There are four stages to this programme:

  • Identifying the Right Job
  • Looking for a Job
  • Applying for a Job
  • Interviews

And each stage has four zones to visit: Skill Zone, Help Zone, Task Zone and Game Zone, where you can reinforce what you're learning, get help to solve a problem, practise some activities and have fun along the way.

 

By the time you've completed the course you'll:

  • Be able to read and understand texts - and obtain information
  • Communicate information in writing
  • Listen and respond to spoken language and inform other people through speaking
  • Read, understand and use numbers and figures
  • Calculate and manipulate information in numbers
  • Use decimals, whole numbers, common measures, time and money
  • Use a calculator

And from here you can develop a whole range of job search skills. You'll find out how and where to find a job that suits you, how to work out wages and how to use your new-found reference skills to find information - about training and job vacancies for instance.

Prior learning needed:
Aimed at 16-35 age range, although older learners are not excluded. Typical learner may be unemployed or looking to change their job. Ideal for those on schemes such as the New Deal, Learning Gateway aiming to develop job search skills.
