Internal auditors are in demand - and it is a career that often leads to top positions in the biggest companies.
Those looking to get ahead in the business world via a blue chip company should consider moving into the internal audit sector, a recruitment specialist has suggested.
Roland Seddon, director of Hays Senior Finance, claimed that firms are investing increasingly in the internal audit process, as it becomes more and more important to the running of a company.
This is leading to the auditor role become more "proactive" and wide-ranging, he said.
"Internal audit is a great way into a blue chip organisation - after one to three years in audit you are often well placed for the most juicy line positions within a business," Mr Seddon remarked.
Due to the ongoing financial crisis, internal audit has been put at the top of the agenda for the majority of companies, as poor risk management and corporate governance have been blamed for many of the problems currently affecting banks around the world.
