Some areas of Cumbria are doing very well at tackling unemployment, new figures suggest.
Employment in some areas of Cumbria is four times higher than the rest of the county, according to a newspaper report.
The Westmorland Gazette highlighted figures from the Office for National Statistics, which revealed residence-based unemployment in Westmorland and Lonsdale was recorded at 0.7 per cent for the last year.
This is four times lower than the rest of the region.
Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron told the newspaper: "This announcement is great news for our local economy, but only tells half the story.
"Although unemployment is low, wages are even lower as the south lakes area employs a higher percentage of seasonal workers than most other places in the region."
Workers and jobseekers in Cumbria could improve their career prospects by undertaking some training.
Online or e-learning is ideal for communities like those in Cumbria, which can be geographically remote, not well-served by public transport or educational facilities but which do have broadband access.
