A campaign to defend further and adult education has got underway.
As many as 200 people were at a meeting at the end of last month which marked the formation of the Campaigning Alliance for Lifelong Learning (Call), it has been reported.
According to the Socialist Worker, defending further and adult education was at the top of the agenda for the summit, which was formed by students, community groups, charities and unions.
"There were lots of community education groups at the meeting - people involved in teaching refugees and teaching Esol (English as a second language)," commented Richard McEwan of Tower Hamlets college, who was at the event.
Speeches from the meeting are available on Call's official website, with representatives of Unison, the National Union of Students (NUS) and the Parliamentary Group for Further Education and Lifelong Learning among those speaking.
Almost 50 organisations have signed up to Call since it was set up earlier this year. NUS, Niace and the University and College Union are the three founding members.
