A new study from e-skills finds openings for developing IT and telecoms skills remain plentiful in first quarter of 2008.
The amount of training opportunities available in the areas of information technology (IT) and telecommunications remained high for all age groups in the first three months of the year, a new report from e-skills has found.
In its latest bulletin, the sector skills council for IT and telecoms said 16 to 24-year-olds experience the highest amount of training in technology fields, with 55 to 64-year-olds taking the least amount of training.
Nevertheless, it added, opportunities to pursue IT and telecoms courses were still widespread and not limited to any particular age range.
The organisation's study also found that in the first quarter of 2008, the number of permanent IT posts increased from the previous quarter, although advertisements seeking contractors in the field were down.
ICT manufacturing had seen the biggest decline in vacancies and average weekly earnings, it added, with programming positions affected to a lesser extent by the slowdown.
Established to develop an employer-led strategy for developing the UK's IT skills, e-skills' board included representatives of companies including Microsoft, BT Wholesale, British Airways and IBM.
