Expert suggests that it is OK for workers to explore the possibility of switching jobs.

Workers should not be afraid of looking for a new job, even in economically uncertain times, according to one expert.

Adecco Retail's Steve Kirkpatrick claimed "there's never a bad time to be looking at what else is on the market even if it's just a way of benchmarking your salary".

The managing director said that if companies are looking to hire workers it can be a positive thing, as in general it can show that they have long-term goals financially - a potential sign of stability.

"Look [at] the options that are open to you, talk to an expert [and] work out what you will gain by moving," Mr Kirkpatrick urged, adding that if everything appears OK, people should not be scared to make the switch.

Last week the Office for National Statistics revealed that unemployment in the UK rose by 81,000 between May and July this year, equating to 5.5 per cent of the population being out of work.
