"Perfect" your interview skills, expert suggests

People should aim to perfect their interview skills before speaking to a potential employer, it has been suggested.

Those seeking jobs should ensure their interview skills are up to scratch before speaking to a potential employer, according to a sector commentator.

Joe McDermott, chief executive officer of online resource Interviewgold.com, suggests this can help people emphasise their skills and create a good impression.

He adds the current economic climate has resulted in certain sectors - such as customer services and the banking and finance industry - lowering their demand for employees, with "all" jobseekers, not just graduates, finding it harder to gain employment.

As such, it could well be of benefit to create the best impression possible when going into and interview.

"What we say to anyone looking for a job is that they have to perfect their interview skills, their CV and prepare thoroughly for all those parts of the job search process," Mr McDermott states.

He suggests that by doing this, people can put themselves in a better position in terms of getting a job.

Mr McDermott makes his comments after the publication of research by Interviewgold.com in October, which suggested that 79 per cent of people think it is harder to gain employment now than it was a year ago.

The poll also indicated more than a third of people have trouble sleeping before they go for an interview as they are concerned about the lies relating to skills they have told on their CV.

Meanwhile, 35 per cent said their biggest job interview nightmare would be getting caught for untruths they put on their CV.
