A young adult learner has hailed learning at work as a more practical and hands-on way to get qualifications.
Clare Burgess from Diss is currently studying for an NVQ level two qualification in marketing as well as an NVQ level three introductory certificate in marketing.
She told EDP24 that she abandoned her studies to get a BTEC foundation diploma in art and design because she wanted to focus her efforts on "something more specific".
The 21-year-old adult learner praised learning at work, saying that it provides her with the opportunity to both study and hold down a job.
Ms Burgess revealed that she is looking to finish her two-year courses within the year and that she then wants to go on to get a degree-level diploma in marketing.
She said that if she did not do this, her career could stagnate at some point because she might need to obtain a degree to get to a higher level.
"This route has enabled me to study while doing something a bit more hands-on than sitting in a classroom," the adult learner commented.
The communications apprentice claimed that it is "very important" to take full advantage of studying and learning opportunities.
Earlier this month, Dave Willmer, executive director of IT staffing firm Robert Half Technology, said in an article for CIOInsight.com that e-learning is a more flexible way for people to learn.
Those who have to work or who have family commitments could find it easier to study and gain qualifications if they are able to do so online when it is convenient for them, he added.
