A new advertising campaign is intended to get young people in the South
Tyneside region to find out more about doing an apprenticeship.
The ad campaign comes at a time when youth unemployment is a major problem
in the region and all over the UK, with thousands of young, bright people
struggling to get their first job after leaving school. Many will benefit
hugely from an opportunity to learn at work and apprenticeships even offer
a salary for trainees as they study for nationally recognised
qualifications such as NVQs.
The adverts have been put up by the North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC)
and are encouraging young people to text for more apprenticeship
information and for the chance to win an iPod.
The Stars of the Future campaign is a great way to attract the attention of
15-18 year-olds, according to the NECC’s head of training operations, John
Millichap. He added, "In the current climate, the North-East jobs market is
a tough environment for school-leavers to break into."
He continued to talk about how apprenticeships offer a great route to
employment and training for young people: "Apprenticeships are one of the
best ways for young people to get their foot on the career ladder, and this
campaign is trying to catch the attention of teenagers who have recently
left school."
So far this year the NECC has played a part in getting jobs for 227 under
18s in the South Tyneside area.
