Advice has been given to a number of people in the north-east who are thinking of setting up their own company after being made redundant.
They were provided with the tips at Chance to Change in Newcastle, an event that was organised to help out those that need help with starting a firm, nebusiness.co.uk reports.
Among the people that went along was Bryan Munro, who is interested in forming a business after he lost his job in October last year.
The 54-year-old had worked in the catering and industrial support sector for all his life and now wants to try and sell some new products he thought of while watching television.
I was just looking for vacancies and one day the idea just hit me," he was quoted as saying.
Mr Munro talked to Tim Hutchinson, who started packaging firm Outpace ten years ago after he was made redundant by ICI.
He said that it was good to be able to put his own ideas to use, adding: "We used to have good ideas at work all the time, but we would just let ICI benefit from them."
Since then, he has gone on to set up three successful companies.
The event was organised by Carole Beverley of the Entrepreneurs Forum, who added that the aim was to "demystify" how to go about setting up a company, either after being made redundant or otherwise.
One person who has seen success after losing his job is Andy Memory of Swindon.
According to the Swindon Advertiser, he started a company that gives first aid and medical training to employees at local firms after being made redundant from his position as a flight attendant.
