A mother who was made redundant from her job in the finance industry has started a new career running the franchise of a children's go-karting firm.
Elaine O'Dwyer of Burtonwood lost her position in the finance sector after 14 years, but decided to put her family first and look for a different job, rather than moving to London, the Warrington Guardian reports.
"It felt so awful because I loved my job and did consider relocating but I knew I'd never see my children," she told the news source.
Ms O'Dwyer took courses that helped her deal with the law and money issues associated with taking on the franchise, which she found out about while she was looking for a way to celebrate her son Rory's fifth birthday.
She joined Go-Kart Party last November and said she has had a "huge amount of support" in the process, which also involved her going to a franchise show in Birmingham.
The company, which is aimed at children aged between four and ten, was set up by Ms O'Dwyer in Warrington in January, after she first got the idea visiting its site in Manchester.
Steven Woodhouse is another person who has switched career after being made redundant.
According to the Peterborough Evening Telegraph, he was made redundant from his job as a machine operator for Indesit a year ago.
He had worked for the firm for nearly 30 years but has since taken courses in English, maths and IT, as well as courses teaching him how to drive a bus.
