A number of foster carers in the Sunderland area, who have also embarked on
adult learning courses, have been thanked personally by the local
Mayor.
These foster carers are not only wonderful people for having helped so many
children to find a loving home, many have also successfully completed
NVQs!
The Mayor of Sunderland, Thomas Martin, decided to personally thank the
foster parents for their commitment to children and congratulated them on
taking the opportunity to gain qualifications.
Nearly 100 carers were invited to a special awards ceremony at Seaburn
Marriott Hotel on Wednesday 30 June. Some 17 were thanked for long service,
ranging from five years to 25 years as foster carers. In addition, 10 of
the carers were congratulated for achieving their Level 3 NVQs in Health
and Social Care.
Not only will these qualifications make them better foster carers, but they
will also be more employable in the health and social care industry.
The acting executive director of the local council’s children’s services,
Keith Moore, said, “Our foster carers are amazing. They dedicate their
lives to giving children in this city a better future and it is only right
that the council takes the time to thank them all.”
He continued, “We really appreciate the time and commitment that foster
carers give and we know that fostering can be a real challenge at times,
but our carers tell us that the rewards far outweigh the challenges.”
