A man from South Shields, who had been out of work for some time, has been
singing the praises of a Jobcentre Plus training scheme that allowed him to
gain the qualifications he needed for a great job.
Lee Pearce was referred onto a welding course by the Jobcentre Plus. The
course was funded through a scheme that encourages people who have been out
of work for more than six months to retrain or gain new skills to help them
get back to work.
Lee got a job with Nissan as soon as he finished his course. However, his
good fortune did not end there - he has now landed a fantastic job with
motor vehicle component company, Gestamp Automocion, where he will work as
a quality liaison technician.
The training scheme is funded and organised by the Jobcentre Plus and the
Skills Funding Agency.
Pearce says he would recommend this type of training to anyone who is
struggling to get back in the job market: "Without the course, I would not
have the confidence or the qualifications to stand out from other
applicants.”
Jobcentre Plus’s Jonathan Fay said Lee has made huge progress as a result
of his efforts on the course. He explained how others can benefit from the
scheme: "Jobseekers can receive tailored support to increase their skills
and significantly improve their chances of gaining employment."
