Expansion plans for classic car business

A man who was made redundant from his job at a civil engineering company has seen success setting up a new business based on one of his passions.

Graham Eason lost his job at NG Bailey in Yorkshire but has since set up Great Escape, a company that offers classic cars for sale, the Business Desk reports.

He runs the firm with his wife and the pair are now expanding the company they started as a result of their hobby.

Presently, they have operations in Dorset, Suffolk and Worcester, but a new base in Harrogate is set to open in the near future.

Mr Eason told the news source they chose the location because of its "beautiful countryside", which is the perfect place to enjoy a drive.

"The Yorkshire Dales are just a few miles away and the only way to truly experience them is behind the wheel of a classic car," he said.

His company will initially be offering two Jaguars, a Volkswagen, Mini Cooper, Porsche and Morris Minor to customers in the area.

In total, Mr Eason and his wife operate a fleet of more than 50 vehicles around the country.

The recession has resulted in a number of people being made redundant, which in turn has opened the door for them to take adult learning classes and move into a new area of work.

One such example of this is Karen Randles, who lost her job at chemical firm Rohm and Haas in Jarrow last August.

According to nebusiness.co.uk, she is now hoping to start her own interior design company after enrolling on the Talent Challenge, which aims to help entrepreneurs in the north-west launch their own firms.
