A Grimsby man has been celebrating this week after securing a dream job as
a football ground manager, which he was only able to obtain as a result of
his new NVQ qualification.
As a keen sports fan, Nick Dale says that getting the job of stadium
manager at Blundell Park, the home of Grimsby Town FC, has been a dream
come true. "Getting the chance to work in professional football – for
someone who loves sport – is great and it didn't take me long to accept the
role,” he told the Grimsby Telegraph.
The former safety officer at the ground, Terry Rudrum, was retiring and the
club decided to fill the gap left at the stadium with the offer of a
full-time role as stadium manager for Nick. It was not a hard decision for
the club to take as Nick has taken every step to ensure that he is fully
trained and qualified for the role.
To do this, he has taken an NVQ in stadium safety, which he will officially
complete in November. After this, he will be the full-time stadium manager,
and the retired Terry Rudrum will continue to work on match days only as
the deputy safety officer.
Nick’s new role is an exciting and diverse one that he could never have
secured without the appropriate vocational training courses. The varied
role includes duties such as ensuring the safety of players and fans on
match days, maintaining the stadium, overseeing its cleaning and carrying
out security measures like random ticket checks.
