- upload and send photos on your computer and mobile phone
Is this qualification right for you?
This qualification is for total beginners and people with some basic IT skills. It's a great start to learning and improving your IT skills if you want to:
- learn how to use technology to keep in touch with friends and family
- use technology to make your day-to-day tasks easier
- learn the basics of using a computer before moving on to a higher level qualification
The Functional Skills in ICT qualification is for learners at entry level 2 and entry level 3.
Here's a simple guide to explain what these levels mean, but we’ll help you work out what level and qualification suits you best before you start.
How will you learn?
You'll enrol and learn at one of our centres, where you'll get face-to-face support from our friendly staff.
Getting your qualification
When you've finished all your courses, you'll take a test at your centre. We'll make sure you have lots of practice beforehand so you're fully prepared.
How much will it cost?
Thanks to Government funding, your modules and qualification may be free. We'll be able to tell you for certain when you start enrolling with us.
How long does it take?
Between 10 and 15 hours, but we'll agree a pace to suit you.

Entry level 2 qualification
If you’re working towards the
entry level 2 qualification, you’ll learn how to:
- Make calls, send texts and take photos with a mobile phone
- Recognise the parts of a computer, how to turn it on and work comfortably
- Connect to the internet and keep your personal details safe
- Know what common gadgets do and how to connect them to a computer
- Choose the best technology for different tasks
- Use a web browser to search the internet for information
- Use email to keep in touch with family, friends and colleagues
- Create documents with a word processing program
Entry level 3 qualification
If you’re working towards the entry level 3 qualification, you’ll learn how to:
- Create a comfortable work area and stay safe online
- Use the internet, email and social networking sites to organise your social life
- Use the internet to plan journeys and buy travel tickets
- Know the benefits and limits of email and use it to keep in touch
- Know how internet tools can help you to chat online and use social media
- Upload photos from a camera and create a computer music library
- Understand the benefits of online banking
- Know the benefits of using comparison websites to plan a holiday
- Write letters and formal documents
- Create posters, flyers and informal documents with a word processor
