Like so many of us, Susan Thomas from
Pontardawe could have gone down a different path in life if she hadn’t
had a goal, a dream that would give her the motivation to reach her
potential.
At 48, nothing can stop Susan following her dream of going to University and pushing herself to gain the essential skills and qualifications in order to get there. After a split from her husband, Susan found it difficult to cope and as a consequence, she had to leave her job after 20 years.
Up until this time, Susan had worked for BT for 28 years and was even a Union Learning Representative, advising and encouraging other staff members within BT to gain skills and qualifications to help build their confidence and gain promotions.
Luckily, she took her own advice and has gone on to complete an access course in Humanities and has completed the European Computer Driving Licence via learndirect.co.uk.
Susan says:
“It is never too late to learn and it not only gives you skills and
qualifications to go onto university or to change your career but it gives
you the confidence you need. The social side of learning was
something that really benefited me and the informal setting and flexible
learning really heightened my confidence. I’m very excited about
going to university and so proud of myself for getting through all the
tough times.”
Susan has been accepted to attend Swansea University.
