Nothing can stop mother and daughter,
Karen and Cathrine improving their CVs and employment prospects by
gaining the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) qualification
through learndirect and Coleg Pontardawe.
Lively mum Karen is constantly looking to keep her mind young and active in
gaining new skills and hopes that achieving a nationally recognised
qualification in computers will allow her to push herself even
further. Her daughter, Cathrine is working as a Primary School
Teacher and wants to gain the ECDL qualification in order to improve her CV
and progress her career. She is also hoping that this course will
ensure that she has more knowledge of computers than the children she
teaches!
Karen explains: “About 8 years ago, I started a counselling course and I haven’t stopped learning since. I do enjoy learning with learndirect as it is so flexible. You can simply pick up where you left off and go at whatever pace you want depending on your other commitments. Cathrine can be left to her own devises whereas I prefer to have a tutor physically in the room. I suppose it is just down to the differences in generations and the type of learning you are used to”.
Both Karen and Cathrine enjoy coming to the learning centre at Coleg Pontardawe, which is part of Neath Port Talbot College every week but also enjoy brushing up on modules at home.
Cathrine adds, “It’s great to come to the centre together, we can really push each other and if I am honest there is also a bit of competition which keeps us going! It keeps us motivated! If we feel too tired or it’s too cold to venture out, then we still commit to coming to the centre as we don’t want to let each other down”.
