Wales’ largest e-learning provider, learndirect, has unveiled plans to provide flexible learning opportunities in the heart of communities throughout the Country.
The Minister for Heritage, Alun Ffred Jones launched the learndirect library handbook, enabling local authorities to offer citizens with the opportunity to gain skills and qualifications within their library.
A number of learndirect providers are already working successfully with local authorities and libraries throughout Wales to enable individuals to access formal and informal learning opportunities on their doorstep.
Jeff Greenidge, Operations Director for Ufi/learndirect Cymru explains, “Libraries have always been a key learning resource in communities and the provision of online learning opportunities in libraries enables more people to access an enhanced range of courses on their doorstep. There are a number of ways that libraries can get involved and this handbook will show them how they can easily introduce online learning through learndirect”.
The Minister for Heritage, Alun Ffred Jones officially launched the learndirect Library Handbook at Caernarfon Library yesterday and adds, “I am delighted to launch this handbook, which I am sure will encourage more libraries to enter into fruitful partnerships with learndirect. Our public libraries are ideally placed to offer this kind of service, providing an accessible, welcoming and relaxed environment in which learners can feel supported, motivated and encouraged. Many libraries have dedicated training suites and with this and similar schemes, there are a host of ICT learning opportunities on offer. Why not visit your local library and check out what is available?”
